Imagine That You’re Writing for Bored Readers

I’m not a great writer, but one principle I find helpful for practical writing is to write as if your reader is about to get bored and stop reading at any moment. Some corollaries of this are:

  1. Say the most important things first.
  2. Keep it short, if you can.
  3. Make sure the reader cares enough to go on, if you’re going to write something complex or difficult.

  1. I am reading all your posts Doug. Very helpful and informative. I know I will be returning to your site for reference as I move along on this writing journey. Thank you, thank you.:)
